Product Overview

Dwarapalakas are the guardian figures that stand at the entrances of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples, symbolising protection. This Kinnal art figurine shows the guardian in a dynamic pose holding a mace (gada), with a tall golden crown, multiple arms, flowing garments and bright decorative detailing in yellow, red, blue and green.

Kinnal art dates back to the Vijayanagara Empire. As the vendor describes, soft wood (Polki Marra) is sculpted, coated with a tamarind gum and pebble paste, and painted with vibrant vegetable colours. At 12 x 6 inches and 1 kg, it makes a striking piece for an entryway, living room or puja room, and a meaningful gift.

Why You'll Love It

  • Traditional Dwarapalaka form: a symbol of protection for your home's entrance
  • Kinnal art heritage: a craft tradition dating back to the Vijayanagara era
  • Vibrant hand-painted detail: rich colours and fine ornamentation
  • Stable wooden base: stands securely on shelves and consoles
